About Dr. Azizi
Dr. Ausim Azizi, a well-known and highly respected neurology leader, is a triple board-certified neurologist who will be integral to Global Neurosciences Institute’s neurology program. He received his MD and PhD degrees from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX. He then completed his graduate work, internship and neurology residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is board-certified in neurology, neuro-imaging and neuro-critical care. Dr. Azizi is an active clinician, a fellow of AAN, ANA and FCPP, and has been elected as a “Top Doc” by Philadelphia Magazine for the past 14 years. Dr. Azizi will be involved in all clinical aspects of Global Neuroscience’s neurology program as well as leading its neuro-intensivist program.
He was trained as a neuro-anatomist and neurophysiologist, publishing a body of work on neuro-morphology. Later, his lab pioneered exploring the use of bone marrow stem cells for treatment of neurologic disorders resulting in a number of academic contributions and a technology use patent. Dr. Azizi is a reviewer and editor of multiple neuroscience journals. In collaboration with basic science departments, he established and obtained funding for the laboratory of stem cell research at Temple University School of Medicine. He most recently served as Chair of Temple’s Department of Neurology where he successfully built the existing Department of Neurology from the ground up.
Dr. Azizi has participated in neuroscience education and development of medical school curriculum from first year medical school programs to continuing medical education and has trained numerous students and residents. He has given invited local, regional, national and international lectures and has received many teaching awards including Russell and Pearl Moses teaching and the Golden Apple award at Temple. He was invited to become a visiting professor at the Mayo Clinic as well as the University of Pennsylvania.
